How it works

  • Ares herbicide combines two active ingredients to deliver reliable control of grassy and broadleaf weeds for the Clearfield canola weed control system.
  • Applied post emergence, Ares is a systemic herbicide that is absorbed through the roots and leaves and moves quickly throughout the plant.
  • Weeds stop growing soon after treatment and continue to effectively die off up to two weeks after application.
  • Ares also provides enough residual activity for control of small, shallow-germinating seeds without compromising seeding in the following year.
  • Ares SN provides extended weed control during the critical weed free period in canola to help maintain and achieve high yields.

Application tips

  • Avoid application immediately before or after frost of during unseasonably cold weather.
  • Use higher water volume on dense weeds and thicker canopies.
  • For the most effective control of in-season thistle, Ares SN can be tank-mixed with Lontrel™ XC for control right down to the roots.

When to apply

Ares provides a wide window of application, helping you control early-emerging weeds before they affect your yield.

Follow crops

One year after application, the following crops may be grown in the treated field:

Canary seed
Chickpeas
Field peas
Field corn
Clearfield canola
Clearfield canola quality Brassica juncea
Lentils (including Clearfield lentils)
Spring wheat (including Clearfield wheat)
Spring barley
Tame oats

NOTE: Ares™ SN contains two IMI herbicides that bind to both clay particles and organic matter in the soil. Binding will increase with a soil pH less than 6.0. These molecules could also remain bound to the clay and organic matter for longer periods of time in dry and cold conditions. Moisture is necessary for soil microorganisms to break down the herbicide molecules and reduce the risk of herbicide carryover into the following year of application.

It is recommended that a minimum rainfall of 125 mm (5") from June 1st to August 31st in the year of application be received for adequate breakdown of the IMI herbicides to support normal crop rotation recommendations. Environment Canada and provincial rainfall data is only to be used as a guideline as rainfall can vary greatly within a small radius. If available, please check local rainfall data to further guide your rotational cropping decisions.

If rainfall in the year of application was below 125 mm (5") from June 1st to August 31st, it is not recommended to grow non-Clearfield™ canola, oats, durum, flax or sunflowers in the 1st season after application. For further information please contact Corteva Agriscience. In severe drought conditions and poor soil quality, Clearfield tolerant wheat or lentils are recommended in rotation.

Two years after application, the following crops may be grown in the treated field:

Non-Clearfield  Canola
Durum wheat
Flax
Sunflower
